Engine Cylinder Head Bolt Torque Sequence

Step-by-step guide to properly torque the cylinder head bolts on a 2021-Present Hyundai elantra.

  • Clean the cylinder head and block mating surfaces.
  • Apply a thin layer of engine oil to the threads of the cylinder head bolts.
  • Install the cylinder head bolts and hand-tighten them.
  • Tighten the cylinder head bolts to 20 Nm (15 ft-lb) in the sequence shown in the diagram.
  • Tighten the cylinder head bolts to 40 Nm (30 ft-lb) in the same sequence.
  • Tighten the cylinder head bolts to 60 Nm (44 ft-lb) in the same sequence.
  • Tighten the cylinder head bolts to 80 Nm (59 ft-lb) in the same sequence.

Wheel Lug Nut Torque

Properly torque the lug nuts on a 2021-Present Hyundai elantra.

  • Clean the wheel and lug nut threads.
  • Apply a thin layer of anti-seize to the threads of the lug nuts.
  • Install the lug nuts and hand-tighten them.
  • Tighten the lug nuts to 100 Nm (74 ft-lb) using a torque wrench.
  • Re-check the torque of the lug nuts after 50 miles of driving.
